Driving someone to Heathrow Airport or collecting an arriving passenger might sound straightforward, but drop-off and pick-up work differently at Heathrow.

If you are dropping someone directly outside Terminals 2, 3, 4 or 5, Heathrow currently charges £7 every time you enter a terminal drop-off area. If you are collecting someone, you cannot use those same forecourts. Pick-ups must normally take place from Terminal Parking, Park & Ride or, at Terminal 4, the dedicated Priority Pick-Up area.

This guide explains the current Heathrow Airport drop-off charge, how to pay it, where to collect passengers, free alternatives and the rules that can help you avoid unnecessary charges.

For wider information about terminals, airport facilities and journey planning, see UKride’s complete Heathrow Airport guide.

Heathrow Drop-Off & Pick-Up Charges at a Glance

The most important thing to remember is simple:

Drop-off = terminal forecourt. Pick-up = designated parking or pick-up area.

Here are the main current options.

Charges checked: 3 September 2026. Heathrow can change parking and forecourt charges, so check the latest information before travelling.

How Does the Heathrow Airport Drop-Off Charge Work?

Heathrow currently charges £7 every time a vehicle enters a terminal drop-off zone.

The charge applies at:

· Terminal 2

· Terminal 3

· Terminal 4

· Terminal 5

The drop-off areas are directly outside the terminal buildings and are designed for passengers who are ready to leave the vehicle and enter the airport.

The £7 fee is charged per entry. If you leave the drop-off zone and enter it again, another £7 charge applies. Heathrow uses automatic number-plate recognition cameras, so there are no barriers or payment booths when you enter. The charge operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Can You Wait in the Heathrow Drop-Off Zone?

No.

Heathrow does not allow drivers to:

· Wait for arriving passengers

· Use the area for passenger collection

· Leave the vehicle unattended

The forecourt is intended for quick departures only. If you need to wait for someone arriving, use an approved pick-up or parking area instead.

Does Every Heathrow Terminal Charge for Drop-Off?

Yes. The same £7 terminal drop-off charge currently applies at Terminals 2, 3, 4 and 5.

How Do You Pay the Heathrow Drop-Off Charge?

One of the easiest mistakes to make is expecting a payment machine when you reach the terminal.

There isn't one.

You can currently pay:

· Online

· By automated telephone

· Through AutoPay if you have set up an account

Payments are card-only. Heathrow does not accept cash or cheques for the terminal drop-off charge.

Can You Pay the Heathrow Drop-Off Charge in Advance?

Yes.

You can pay before travelling, on the day of your visit or afterwards.

If paying after you have used the drop-off area, Heathrow requires payment by midnight on the following day.

If you regularly drive to Heathrow, a personal or business account can also be used to manage payments and AutoPay.

What Happens If You Forget to Pay?

If the charge is not paid within the required period, Heathrow currently states that an £80 Parking Charge may be issued. This is reduced to £40 if paid within 14 days.

Because charges and enforcement arrangements can change, always check Heathrow's current rules rather than relying on information from an older airport visit.

Heathrow Drop-Off Areas by Terminal

The charge is the same at each terminal, but the road approach differs.

Heathrow Terminal 2 Drop-Off

Terminal 2's drop-off area is reached from Constellation Way, followed by the ramp towards the terminal forecourt.

The current charge is £7 for each entry.

Heathrow Terminal 3 Drop-Off

Drivers approaching Terminal 3 follow Cosmopolitan Way towards Camborne Road, which leads to the terminal drop-off lanes.

The £7 charge applies each time you enter.

Heathrow Terminal 4 Drop-Off

Terminal 4's drop-off area is approached via Stratford Road.

Standard passenger drop-off continues to operate at T4 and currently costs £7 per entry.

Do not confuse this with the Terminal 4 Priority Pick-Up area, which is specifically for collecting arriving passengers and uses a different charging structure.

Heathrow Terminal 5 Drop-Off

Terminal 5's drop-off zone is accessed via Wayfarer Road, leading towards the forecourt lanes.

Again, the charge is £7 per entry.

If you're unsure which Heathrow terminal your flight uses, UKride's Heathrow Terminal 5 guide can help T5 passengers, while your airline's latest flight information should always be used to confirm the actual departure or arrival terminal.

Where Do You Pick Up Passengers at Heathrow Airport?

You cannot collect passengers from Heathrow's terminal drop-off forecourts.

For most terminals, Heathrow directs drivers to:

1. Terminal Parking, or

2. Park & Ride

Terminal 4 also has a separate Priority Pick-Up area.

The right choice depends mainly on how close you want to be to the terminal and how long you expect to wait.

Picking Up from Heathrow Terminal Parking

For Terminals 2, 3 and 5, Terminal Parking is generally the closest standard option for passenger collection.

Current drive-up prices are:

Length of Stay	Current Charge
0–29 minutes	£8.00
30–44 minutes	£12.50
45–59 minutes	£15.50
1–2 hours	£20.00

These rates became effective on 6 January 2026. Longer stays cost more.

You normally take a ticket when entering and pay at a machine or exit gate before leaving.

When Might Terminal Parking Make Sense?

It may be useful when:

· You want to meet the passenger inside arrivals.

· The passenger has several bags.

· You are collecting children or older relatives.

· You prefer to be closer to the terminal.

· You expect the passenger to be ready soon.

The key word is ready.

A flight showing as "landed" does not mean the passenger is already outside.

Picking Up from Heathrow Park & Ride

Park & Ride provides another option for passenger collection.

For drive-up pick-ups, the current charges are:

Length of Stay	Current Charge
0–29 minutes	Free
30 minutes–1 hour 59 minutes	£9.40

Free shuttle buses connect the Park & Ride car parks with the terminals. Heathrow currently states that these buses generally operate every 15 minutes, with journey times varying by terminal.

You do not need to pre-book Park & Ride for a short passenger collection. Drive in, take a ticket and pay at the machine if your stay exceeds the free period.

Is Park & Ride Really a Free Heathrow Pick-Up Option?

It can be, provided you leave within the free period.

For most standard Park & Ride pick-ups, the first 29 minutes are free. The trade-off is that the passenger needs to use the shuttle between the terminal and car park.

So, the right comparison isn't simply "free versus paid". It is:

Lower cost + shuttle journey vs closer terminal access + parking charge.

Heathrow Terminal 4 Pick-Up Is Different

Terminal 4 currently has special arrangements following changes introduced in June 2026.

Drivers collecting passengers have two main choices:

· Terminal 4 Priority Pick-Up

· Terminal 4 Park & Ride

Terminal 4 Priority Pick-Up Charges

The dedicated T4 Priority Pick-Up area opened on 23 June 2026 and is designed for quicker passenger collections close to the terminal.

Current charges are:

Length of Stay	Charge
Up to 10 minutes	£7
11–29 minutes	£14
30–60 minutes	£25
Over 60 minutes	£25 for each additional 60 minutes or part thereof

The maximum daily charge is currently £200.

Payment works differently from normal Terminal Parking. For Priority Pick-Up, you pay online, by automated telephone or through AutoPay, and payment must be made by midnight the day after the visit.

Is There Free Pick-Up at Heathrow Terminal 4?

Yes.

Zone A of Terminal 4 Park & Ride currently allows up to two hours of free parking for passenger collection.

Passengers can use the free shuttle between the terminal and the car park.

This is significantly different from the standard 29-minute free period in other Park & Ride areas, so T4 drivers should check the latest airport information before travelling.

Heathrow Drop-Off vs Pick-Up: What's the Difference?

The two are easy to confuse, especially if you do not visit Heathrow regularly.

Features	Heathrow Drop-Off	Heathrow Pick-Up
Main purpose	Leave a departing passenger	Collect an arriving passenger
Terminal forecourt	Yes	No
Standard forecourt charge	£7 per entry	Not applicable
Waiting permitted?	No	Use designated area
Terminal Parking	Optional alternative	Common collection option
Park & Ride	Free short-stay alternative	Free short-stay alternative
Special T4 option	Standard forecourt	Priority Pick-Up / Zone A

The simplest rule is:

If the passenger is leaving the car, use drop-off. If you are waiting for the passenger to arrive, use an approved pick-up area.

Is There Free Drop-Off at Heathrow Airport?

Yes.

Heathrow currently provides a free drop-off option through its Park & Ride car parks. Passengers then take the airport's free shuttle bus to their terminal.

This may be worth considering if:

· You want to avoid the £7 terminal charge.

· The passenger has enough time before departure.

· They are comfortable using the shuttle.

· Direct terminal forecourt access is not essential.

For someone travelling with significant luggage, small children or reduced mobility, consider the complete journey rather than choosing only by price.

Is There Free Pick-Up at Heathrow?

Yes, depending on the location and waiting time.

For standard Heathrow Park & Ride car parks, the first 29 minutes are currently free.

At Terminal 4, Zone A currently provides up to two hours free.

There is no free waiting period in Terminal Parking at T2, T3 or T5. The current charge starts at £8 for up to 29 minutes.

Blue Badge Drop-Off Discounts and Pick-Up Rules

Valid UK or EEA Blue Badge holders can currently apply for a 100% discount on Heathrow's £7 terminal drop-off charge.

The discount applies to the vehicle dropping off the Blue Badge holder, so the passenger does not need to own or drive the vehicle themselves. It can therefore apply to a friend's car or a taxi, provided the concession is correctly registered.

Heathrow now uses a Blue Badge account process. Once the badge has been approved, the passenger confirms the visit date and vehicle registration to receive the discount. Heathrow advises allowing time for the initial account application and approval.

Blue Badge holders can also currently receive two hours of free parking in Heathrow Park & Ride car parks, subject to following the airport's process.

Important Terminal 4 Exception

Blue Badge discounts or exemptions do not apply to the Terminal 4 Priority Pick-Up area.

If this affects your journey, check Heathrow's accessibility and concession information before travelling.

Common Heathrow Drop-Off and Pick-Up Mistakes

A little planning can prevent most problems.

1. Trying to Pick Someone Up from the Drop-Off Forecourt

2. Forgetting to Pay the £7 Drop-Off Charge

3. Assuming One £7 Payment Covers Multiple Visits

4. Arriving for Pick-Up as Soon as the Flight Lands

5. Going to the Wrong Heathrow Terminal

6. Confusing Terminal Parking with Park & Ride

7. Using Old Terminal 4 Information

Driving to Heathrow vs Booking an Airport Transfer

Driving a family member or friend to Heathrow can work perfectly well when the journey is simple and someone is available to make the airport trip.

A pre-booked airport transfer is another option if the passenger would rather avoid:

· Asking someone to make the airport round trip

· Driving and parking

· Working out forecourt payment

· Coordinating passenger collection

· Travelling with several bags on public transport

UKride provides pre-booked Heathrow Airport taxi across London, including scheduled journeys to Heathrow and airport pickups after arrival. UKride's current Heathrow service also includes fixed fares, flight tracking and different vehicle sizes for passengers and luggage.

For an airport pickup, the passenger's flight number helps the journey be planned around the actual arrival.
